2014 Lecture & Luncheon

International style icon Nicky Haslam filled the room at the annual Lecture & Luncheon for the American Friends of British Art on February 1, 2014 at the Colony Hotel.  Based on his recently published book “Folly de Grandeur: Romance and Revival in an English Country House”, Haslam entertained the audience with a presentation about his restoration of a stunning English hunting lodge.

2014 Lecture & Luncheon announced!

American Friends of British Art’s 3rd Annual Lecture & Luncheon will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at the Colony Hotel in Palm Beach. The guest speaker this year will be international style icon Nicholas “Nicky” Haslam, who will present “Folly de Grandeur: Romance and Revival in an English Country House” followed by a book signing. Through a beautiful visual presentation, Nicky Haslam will entertain you with stories and details of the extraordinary transformation of his 17th century hunting lodge into a showplace of gardens and antiquities. Not to be missed!

Tickets for the event must be purchased in advance and availability is limited. Tickets may be purchased for $125 by calling AFBA at 561-687-3394.

2013 Lecture & Luncheon

American Friends of British Art celebrated its 10th anniversary recently at their annual Lecture & Luncheon held at the Colony Hotel in Palm Beach. The guest speaker this year was Lady Henrietta Spencer-Churchill, a noted interior designer, author, and eldest daughter of the 11th Duke of Marlborough. The charity’s founder Dr. Michael Ridgdill introduced Lady Henrietta, who provided a visual presentation titled “The Life of the House; How Rooms Evolve,” which included photos and stories about her childhood home Blenheim Palace, followed by a book signing.

Spotted amongst those in attendance were Hope Alswang (Director of the Norton Museum of Art), Veronica Atkins, Bill and Maura Benjamin, Princess Sybil de Bourbon-Parme, Carolyn Buckley, John Cafaro, Senator Capri Cafaro, Terry and Linda Collier, Dr. Angela Culveyhouse, William Eubanks, well-known classical architects Anne Fairfax and Richard Sammons, Leta Austin Foster, Jennifer Garrigues, Timothy Johnson, Daniel and Shanna Kahan, Brantley Knowles, Donna Long, Ross Meltzer, Mary Agnes Quinn, Virginia Oatley Berges, Hilary Geary Ross, Betsy and Wally Turner, and Fernando Wong.

2012 Lecture & Luncheon

American Friends of British Art kicked off its first annual Lecture & Luncheon Series at the Phillips Point Club in West Palm Beach, where guest speaker The Marquess Townshend provided a visual presentation titled, “Raynham Hall and the Townshend Archives.” Lord Townshend, who is also patron of AFBA, led attendees on a guided tour of his ancestral home Raynham Hall, giving particular focus to historic pieces of furniture, artwork and select documents from the family archives, which date more over 900 years. Marquess Townshend Reception – February 2011

The Worth Avenue showroom of William R. Eubanks Interior Design served as the elegant backdrop for a reception hosted recently honoring The Marquess Townshend and benefitting American Friends of British Art. Loyal AFBA supporters from as faw away as New York and Washington were in attendance to help AFBA raise funds and to help celebrate the 8th year since AFBA’s founding. The event was themed “Raj” and featured exotic hors d’oeuvres and Anglo-Indian inspired designs, which entertained the nearly 90 guests who were in attendance.

Lord Raynham’s Tea Party – February 2010

In collaboration with the 2010 Palm Beach Jewelry, Art & Antique Show, American Friends of British Art brought over The Right Honourable Lord Raynham to present a lecture titled, “The Townshends: An English Noble Family and Their Art”, followed by a tea party for AFBA supporters. The event’s main sponsor was U.S. Trust/Bank of America Private Wealth Division, and junior sponsors were Smith & Moore Architects, and South Florida Financial Services.
